Bridging the Future: Collaboration of Pioneer Businesses in Districts with Nusa Transformasi Venture and Terratai

September 21, 2024

One of the key factors for change in achieving self-sufficiency in districts is the growth of local businesses that carry out production and processing of natural resource-based commodities from biodiversity. However, many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in districts face capital limitations in at least four aspects: access to production, human resource development, access to technology and innovation, and market access. Therefore, some pioneer businesses working in nature-based innovation require support from venture capital firms that can guide and increase their capacity. This is where Nusa Transformation Ventures (NTV) and Terratai play a vital role.

LTKL successfully connected with these two venture capital firms that focus on social and forest and ecosystem protection impact. In this collaboration, which began in the first quarter of 2024, they are committed to finding early-stage pioneer businesses to guide them in developing clear social impact with a sustainable business model. With a combined experience in impact exceeding 20 years, the NTV and Terratai team leverages global business experience to deliver local impact.

Initially, both NTV and Terratai will identify potential pioneer businesses that can grow and have a systemic impact in LTKL member districts. Independently, each will act as a key partner to drive the growth and maturity of businesses in LTKL districts with the following criteria:

(i) Protecting forest areas, peatlands, or other environmental ecosystems from potential damage in LTKL member districts.

(ii) Providing a positive impact on the quality of life for communities.

(iii) Demonstrating connectivity, providing support and facilitation related to the supply chain within the working area, even though they may not be directly operating in that area.

(iv) In terms of commodities, connected to or operating in the supply chain of agroforestry, aquaculture, bamboo, coffee, cocoa, coconut, and ecosystem services including tourism.

In this first phase, several companies in LTKL districts are undergoing the mentoring process. For the next few months, the NTV team will focus on developing the business model and strengthening the production capacity of one of the companies in the aquaculture sector. It is hoped that in the future, more pioneer businesses will gain access to mentorship and resources from these venture capital partners.
