Anomali Coffee and Pinaloka Launch 5 Collaborative Dishes Featuring Siak Crown Pineapple, A True Effort to Preserve Nature Through Sustainable Products.
Thursday, February 22, 2024 – Anomali Coffee, committed to product quality and contributing to the preservation of Indonesia’s natural environment, proudly announces a groundbreaking collaboration with Pinaloka, a women’s business group from Tanjung Kuras village in Siak District, Riau. This collaboration results in the launch of five unique dishes made from Siak Crown Pineapple, sourced from local farmers in the peatlands of Siak District as part of a genuine effort to protect the environment through sustainable practices. The partnership between Pinaloka and Anomali Coffee stems from a shared vision to develop food products sourced from local farmers across various regions.
Siak Crown Pineapple boasts a refreshing and tangy flavor that compliments the acidic notes of robusta coffee. In this collaboration, Siak Crown Pineapple has been transformed into five new menu items by Anomali Coffee. These offerings, ranging from snacks to beverages, are designed to delight the taste buds of the community. The five menu items include hearty dishes like Lamb Chop Fried Rice, a fried rice mixed with lamb slices served with dried pineapple and chips. Another special dish is Grilled Lamb Chop, featuring roasted lamb served with a potato and mushroom sauce.
In addition to the main courses, there are also sweet treats like Pina Cake, a baked pineapple cake served with cream cheese. Another refreshing option is Tropical Black, a blend of Siak Crown Pineapple, jasmine tea, and rich espresso served over ice. The final menu item is Aloha Siak, a delightful drink combining coconut and pineapple. At the launch event held at Anomali Coffee Menteng, guests had the opportunity to craft these collaborative dishes alongside Anomali Coffee’s chef.
Irvan Helmi, Co-Founder of Anomali Coffee, welcomed the synergy between his brand and Pinaloka. “We are kicking off 2024 with this unique collaboration between Pinaloka and Anomali Coffee, featuring several dishes and beverages made from Siak Crown Pineapple. Additionally, there will be canned beverages made from Siak pineapple syrup created by the women’s group Pinaloka and local farmers. Through this collaboration, we aim to make a positive impact not only on the commodities but also on the people in Siak,” said Irvan. The menu items are crafted from authentic Siak Crown Pineapples, curated to high standards to appeal to millennials and young people at Anomali Coffee Jakarta. All items will officially be available starting February 22, 2024.
Ristika Putri Istanti, Head of the Lingkar Temu Kabupaten Lestari (LTKL), stated, “In this collaboration, LTKL serves as the facilitator that brings together Anomali Coffee and Pinaloka. Starting from the forest fires in Siak, we have seen a gradual decline in the incidence of these fires. Fires in peatland can be prevented if the area is kept wet or humid. Peatlands play a crucial role in balancing ecosystems, and Siak itself has 57.44% of its total area as peatland, covering nearly nine thousand hectares. LTKL strives to promote sustainable economic practices as broadly as possible, including within the context of collaborations involving young people in Siak and national partners like Anomali.”
Siak District, as a member of LTKL, along with eight other member regencies, is committed to preserving 50% of its forests, peatlands, and critical ecosystems while enhancing the welfare of over one million people, particularly farmers, women, and local youth. For Siak District, this commitment aligns with the Siak Hijau policy, which aims to prevent a recurrence of the peatland fires that occurred in 2015-2016 in Riau Province, causing losses exceeding 200 trillion rupiah and leading to respiratory illnesses for hundreds of thousands of children and adults. Siak District is home to the largest peatland area on Sumatra Island, with more than half of its total area (57.44%) comprising peatland, amounting to 479,485 hectares. Of this peatland, 21% consists of deep peat, with depths ranging from 3 to 12 meters. Siak also boasts Lake Zamrud, the second-largest peat lake in the world. Currently, various stakeholders, particularly youth and local communities, are developing peat-friendly commodities that provide economic value while protecting peatlands from drought and fires. Siak Crown Pineapple is one such peat-friendly commodity being cultivated in peat care villages in Siak District, in collaboration with various local and national partners within the LTKL coalition, including organizations like Winrock International, WRI, Daemeter, Sedagho Siak, and government agencies such as the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency through the Peat Monitoring Village program.
Husni Merza, Deputy Regent of Siak and Vice Chair of LTKL, stated, “Siak District’s commitment to promoting sustainable investment in peat-friendly commodities is exemplified by the publication of the Siak Investment Outlook in 2022, in collaboration with many development partners within the Siak Multi-Stakeholder Partnership, namely the Siak Hijau Coordination Team (TKSH). This multi-stakeholder collaboration has successfully developed a sustainable business incubation center, SKELAS, where various nature-based sustainable business potentials are supported and developed into professionally managed enterprises. Additionally, there is an innovation center featuring an R&D laboratory aimed at creating innovative products from peat-friendly commodities, led by local youth. We hope that nature-based downstream products, such as those from Pinaloka, will continue to be created and thrive in Siak.”
